1997 GAYP National Tournament at Howard Johnson in Greensboro, NC - standing is Carl Marshall a veteran American Checkerist and a notable mail player.  Gene didn't play since he performs as Referee & Scorekeeper.  He was a master tournament player, served as past treasurer of ACF, a tournament promoter, and left a generous endowments to checkers & draughts.
